A major casualty of Friday's qualifying session was Austin Dillon, grandson of owner Richard Childress, whose No. 3 Chevrolet failed to meet minimum height requirements during post-qualifying inspection at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. Because of the infraction, Dillon's qualifying time was disallowed.
As one of 13 drivers required to make the race on speed, he will not compete on Saturday. Dillon was driving a truck whose paint scheme was reminiscent of the Sprint Cup car driven by Dale Earnhardt, who won six of his seven championships with Childress.
Truck series points leader Ron Hornaday will start 13th. Mike and Chrissy Wallace, the first father/daughter combination ever to compete in a NASCAR national touring series race together, will start 33rd and 27th, respectively.
